We provide neutral, factual information to support buyer due diligence. This is not legal advice. Buyers should consult qualified legal counsel for jurisdiction-specific determinations.
Article 6 of the Paris Agreement establishes frameworks for international carbon market cooperation. Article 6.2 covers bilateral agreements; Article 6.4 establishes a centralized mechanism. The applicability of Article 6 to voluntary carbon credits varies by project, host country, and buyer jurisdiction.
Double counting occurs when the same emission reduction is claimed by more than one party. This can arise when the host country also counts the reduction toward its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). We provide neutral position notes on double-counting risk for each project — buyers should consult qualified legal counsel for jurisdiction-specific guidance.
A corresponding adjustment is a formal accounting entry by the host country government to avoid double counting under Article 6.2. Not all voluntary carbon credits carry corresponding adjustments. We clearly document whether each project has, or is expected to have, corresponding adjustments.
We do not make regulatory or legal claims on behalf of buyers. Our documentation provides factual information to support buyer due diligence. All regulatory compliance determinations should be made by qualified legal counsel in the relevant jurisdiction.
